Elementary Support Specialist
The Elementary Support Specialist (ESS) serves all students in the school in a variety of settings, from whole class, to small groups or individual consultations. A few students are referred to community resources to meet their needs. There are times when the ESS does handle immediate and urgent needs of students.

The ESS works with students and their families as requested to overcome barriers to the students’ school success. The ESS works directly with students and families as a support for developmental and social-emotional issues. The ESS can facilitate planning and referral to appropriate community agencies for families needing the support of those agencies.

Carl Cozier’s Elementary Support Specialist is M. Jane Moudry. Jane is a Certified School Social Worker. Jane works in classrooms, with groups and individual students. She is also a compassionate problem solver when parents and caregivers need that extra listening ear or another idea to raise their child to be the best they can be. She may be reached by calling 676-6470, x5860.

ELL (English Language Learners)
English Language Learner services are provided to children who are from a linguistic background influenced by a language other than English. We currently have 16 students with a wide range of different languages that include Chinese, Vietnamese, Russian, Punjabi and Spanish. Some of our students come to us with no English while others have strong verbal English skills. Our goal is to build vocabulary and teach concepts, skills and topics. The curriculum is different for the different levels, but we believe that language is more quickly accessed through reading; therefore, reading is always introduced right away even to the students with very little English. Children either learning English for the first time or those working on becoming more academically proficient benefit from a private half-hour daily, which we provide at Carl Cozier. The atmostphere allows them to take risks and have the one-on-one help that encourages language development. Our ELL Specialist is Lynn Skerry. She can be reached at 676-6470 ext. 5868.
