Online stories for young readers

Starfall - Have your headphones ready, because this is a reading AND listening site for primary kids.

Picture Dictionary - Find words for each letter of the alphabet.

Storyplace - Click on "Other themes" to see all of the stories that are available. Be sure to check out the pre-school library as well as the elementary library.

Magic Keys - Children's storybooks online. No sound at this site.

PBS Kids - Between the Lions - stories for kids to read online. The sound is limited to just a few underlined words on each page.

Little Animals Activity Centre - Stories with sound, couting games, etc. The site is from the BBC, so stories are read with a British accent.

Mem Fox - on Mem Fox's website, she reads three of her stories aloud. Go to the table of contents, and look under "reading aloud." Be sure to check the book out from the library, as kids won't see the illustrations online.

Scholastic Language for Literacy
Letter matching games and rhyming games for primary students.

American Folklore - a huge collection of folk tales, tall tales, Native American myths and legends, and ghost stories. Search them by region of origin, by title, or by famous character.
